What is call scoring?
Call scoring is the practice of rating a sales call against a fixed set of criteria from a scorecard, so every conversation is judged by the same standard and coaching targets real gaps.
Why it matters
A sales manager with eight reps cannot listen to every call. Without scoring, coaching rests on the handful of calls the manager joined and on how the rep describes the rest. Feedback drifts toward style and away from the behaviours that move deals.
Call scoring makes the standard explicit. Every call is measured against the same criteria: did the rep confirm the pain, identify who decides, agree a next step with a date. Patterns show up across weeks and reps. One rep never asks about budget; another always runs out of time before the next step. That is something a manager can coach.
Manual scoring has a ceiling: it takes a manager longer than the call itself, so only a sample gets scored. Automatic scoring removes that limit, as long as each score can be checked.
Example
A discovery call is scored against a five-criterion scorecard. “Pain identified” passes, with the reasoning that at 08:15 the buyer says their team re-enters every order by hand. “Decision maker identified” fails: the rep never asks who signs, and the buyer refers only to “we”. “Next step agreed” passes at 31:40, where both sides agree a demo for Thursday at ten.
The manager reads the two-line reasoning, clicks the timestamp, hears the moment and leaves a comment on the missing question. The coaching conversation is about one question, not the whole call.
How Drummer handles it
Drummer scores every call automatically against the scorecard your team uses, whether MEDDIC, BANT, SPIN or your own. Each criterion gets a verdict, the reasoning and the timestamp that proves it, so a manager can check any score in seconds. Six conversation metrics, from talk ratio to question rate, are measured against benchmarks for the call type.
See it on the coaching page, or start from a ready-made scorecard in the template gallery.
Give every rep a day back, starting next week.
Thirty minutes, on your own calls and your own CRM. No migration, nothing for your reps to learn.
