What is MEDDPICC?
MEDDPICC is an extension of the MEDDIC sales qualification methodology that adds Paper process and Competition, for enterprise deals where procurement, legal review and rival vendors shape the outcome.
Why it matters
MEDDIC covers whether a deal is real. In enterprise sales, a real deal can still slip by a quarter because of what happens after the buyer says yes: security questionnaires, legal redlines, procurement rounds and a competitor brought in late to keep the price honest.
MEDDPICC keeps the six MEDDIC elements (Metrics, Economic buyer, Decision criteria, Decision process, Identify pain, Champion) and adds two:
- Paper process: the contracting steps from verbal yes to signature, who runs them and how long they take.
- Competition: which other vendors, internal projects or “do nothing” options the buyer is weighing.
Teams that forecast large deals use the extra letters to stop calling a deal committed when the contract has not reached legal yet.
Example
On a late-stage call, the champion confirms the business case is approved. At 35:12 the rep asks, “What happens between your yes and a signed contract?” The champion answers, “Procurement runs a standard vendor review, usually four to six weeks, and they will ask for a second quote.”
That answer fills both new letters. The paper process has a known length that pushes the close date out of this quarter, and competition is coming even though the buyer has chosen. The rep updates the close date and asks for the procurement contact that same day.
How Drummer handles it
Drummer scores every call against a MEDDPICC scorecard automatically, with a verdict, the reasoning and a timestamp for each of the eight elements. Managers see in one view which deals have an open paper process or an unknown competitor. The rep’s AI twin writes the fields back to your CRM after each call.
Start from the MEDDPICC scorecard template, or compare it with plain MEDDIC if your deals are smaller.
Give every rep a day back, starting next week.
Thirty minutes, on your own calls and your own CRM. No migration, nothing for your reps to learn.
